Kerger, Camille

Camille Kerger is a Luxembourgian composer, opera singer, and music teacher, born in 1957 in Redange-sur-Attert in central Luxembourg. He studied trombone, singing and composition at the Conservatoires of Luxembourg and Metz, as well as Musikhochschules of Mannheim and Düsseldorf where he graduated in voice. He began his career as a trombonist in different symphonic orchestras such as the Orchestra of RTL and the orchestra of the Théâtre de Trêves. On two occasions, he was a member of the "Europeen Youth Orchestra" under the direction of Claudio Abbado. He also played in many chamber music ensembles. As a lyric tenor, he has sung many operas, oratorios and concerts throughout Europe. In 1996 he helped found the Théâtre National de Luxembourg which he directed until 2006. He is director for the INECC (Institut Européen de Chant Choral, Luxembourg).

He has written over a hundred varied works, including chamber music, symphonic works and operas. His compositions have been performed by ensembles such as: Musica Aeterna (Luxembourg), Sigma (Luxembourg), Alter Ego (Rome), GAMO ensemble (Firenze), Atelier-Musique (Ville d'Avray), Travnicek (Bratislava), Gaudeamus (Amsterdam), Parnassus (London), Interchange (Luxembourg), I Solisti Veneti (Padua), Ensemble vocal du Luxembourg, the Saxas ensemble, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Luxembourg, l'Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Opera Orchestra of Mannheim, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Lorraine, Riga Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. His works are performed throughout Europe, the United States and Canada.
